4/23 : I read chapter 23 of pay it forward and I made a list of new vocabulary. I studied new words and wrote a summary. Also, I went to the writing center. I found my essay’s outline problem through writing center.

4/24: I read chapter 24 and 25. Also, I made a list of new vocabulary and wrote summary. I borrowed grammar book from my friend so studied grammar about connection word and proposition.

4/25: I went to the writing center so found my essay’s problems about grammar and content. Also, I studied proposition.

4/26:I read chapter 26 and 27 of pay it forward and study new words. In addition, I wrote summary of chapter 26 and 27.

4/27: I wrote second draft of essay. Moreover, I read chapter 23-27 quickly.

4/28:I studied book quiz. I studied vocabularies and read chapter 25 because chapter 25 made me hesitate.

4/29:I went to the writing center. I got some information about writing essay so I corrected my problem of essay. Also, I wrote second draft of essay.

My plan

I think I have trouble with reading a book. Sometimes I did not understand complex sentences so I spent a lot of time for understanding sentences not whole story. Therefore, I could not understand whole story because concentrating only sentences p However, I found best way reading a book since ever midterm. I read the book two times. First, I read the book without dictionary and just circle word which I had not known. I also underline important sentence. Second, I concentrate on words. I search words and summarize story chapter by chapter. In addition, I have trouble with writing. I have to think logically. I have plans about next week.

4/24: I read chapter23’s summary and main parts. Also, I search two essays on the Internet and read focusing on the body paragraph.

4/25: I read chapter23’s summary and I’m supposed to read chapter24 of pay it forward. I just read without dictionary at first time. Second I concentrate on words. I search the meaning of works and organize on note. If I understand I will write a summary.

4/26: I read chapter24’s summary and main parts. Then, re-look my essays and try to figure out my bad habits about writing an essay.

4/27:  I read chapter24’s summary and I’m supposed to read chapter25 of pay it forward. I just read without dictionary at first time. Second I concentrate on words. I search the meaning of works and organize on note. If I understand I will write a summary.

4/28: I read chapter25’s summary and main parts. In addition, I study connection words.

4/29: I read chapter25’s summary and I’m supposed to read chapter26 of pay it forward. I just read without dictionary at first time. Second I concentrate on words. I search the meaning of works and organize on note. If I understand I will write a summary. In addition, I read chapter23-26 summary.

reading reflection

I read an article about relationship between with people around me. According to “10 ways to Lose All Your Friends”, written by Jeff Haden (April 12, 2014), 10 ways or behaviors to lose friends exist. Firstly, you thoughtlessly waste other people’s time. Secondly, you ignore people outside your “level.” Thirdly, you ask for too much. Fourthly, you ignore people in genuine need. Fifthly, you ask a question so you can talk. Sixthly, you pull a “Do you know who I am?” Seventhly, you don’t dial it back. Eighthly, you mistake self-deprecation for permission. Ninthly, you humblebrag. Humblebrag is form that people brag their ability or good point without appearing of humility. Finally, you push your opinions.

This article’s title was interesting so I chose this article. It is a creative title. It attracted me. I think the first, second and tenth are worst. I often see people who waste other people’s time. I actually seem to this person. These people usually late an appointment or meeting. Nobody likes to wait someone in appointment.  I think second way is underestimating someone. I hate this behavior so I always be careful in this behavior. In conclusion, I think this article give advices how to success in interpersonal relation.

Time is money

I like a proverb because it gives me lesson. I remember the proverb: “Time is money.” This proverb means time is precious because time is never stops and it always passes. Everyone knows time can’t stop also passes quickly while we waste time. These days, I usually waste time because I do procrastination. Sometimes I can’t believe how quickly the time has gone. I made a goal about management of time. In addition, I wrote proverbs which contain importance of time on diary.

 I like another proverb. There is “A trouble shared is a trouble halved.” It means that if you have worry or trouble about something, it is better to share your worries instead of keep worries in your mind. I believe this proverb. When I’m sad, I can’t control my feeling so I get depression more and more. Moreover, I can’t overcome depression by myself. I usually share my problems with my family and friends. They understand me and give me advice. They always console me so I always get cheer and overcome depression. This proverb is true.

I think old proverb always true and give modern people lesson and learning. I believe we can learn more precious value from proverb.

Review about Conference

I had conference on last Tuesday. I wanted to know lack of my essay. Teacher pointed out my mistakes. I always forget using “a, an”. I also write my opinion more specific. To write more specific can make my essay enrich. Moreover, I need to accurate writing. I have to write essay like English style as far as possible. Conference was useful. When I write an essay, I had not thought missing “a, an”. I’m going to beware of missing “a, an”. I think I don’t reach my goals and I need more efforts. I should not stop working hard. Furthermore, I make new next week goals. I’m going to make full use of the conference so I’m going to ask teacher more questions so get knowledge. Another goal is to write an essay as soon as possible because I always spend a lot of time on writing so my essay’s conclusion is always not good.  I really want to write a good conclusion because conclusion is important part of essay. Even though introduction and body paragraphs are good, an essay contain bad conclusion never become a good essay. In addition, I have to try to using various vocabularies. Various vocabularies make essay can have fluency.

Stereotypes about American

Everything is different so we should not have stereo types but I had three types of stereotypes. Three types of stereotypes were consisted of party, exercise and kindness. I came to the U.S. three months ago so I know what is false and what is true.

My first stereotype is Americans always have party. When I watched the English movie about American teenagers, they look like enjoy party everyday even if they don’t have reason they can have party. However, it isn’t true. They usually have party on weekend or special day but I think this stereotype isn’t entirely untrue. My neighbor usually has party on Saturday. I even heard fire alarm yesterday because of party.

Other stereotype is Americans don’t like doing exercise but it is totally false. I usually see Americans do exercise anywhere. The young Americans enjoy good weather with doing exercise. It is natural to see Americans jogging around the UNCG. I also figure out difference between Korean and American. I think that Koreans usually want to have good body shape so they do exercise hardly but Americans just enjoy exercise by itself.

Final stereotype is Americans are not friendly. I thought Americans are generally individualistic. I don’t like individualism so I had worried. However, it was not true. I haven’t met individual person. All Americans are friendly. I realized Americans are more rational people not individual.

 

Special Action

When my friends and family get worry and grief, I usually write a letter and give it toward them because giving a letter cause positive effects. I think a letter is stronger than words because people can see a letter anytime. My friend got grief three years ago because she failed exam so she couldn’t apply to university. She really wanted to go university so she didn’t go outside and didn’t eat anything. Everyone around her worried her but she didn’t answer the phone and she said I scare to answer the phone. I really thought how can I help her and I finally found a solution. It was to write a letter. I just wanted to let her get encouragement so I tried to cheer up her and express heartfelt sorry. She finally accepted my cordiality and she was changed. She went to the outside and met friends also wanted to get advices. Moreover, she started to study again. After, she could pass the exam and applied university so she finally entered the university. She sometimes tells me that you are my important friend and you made me changed. I think writing a heartfelt letter is wonderful way I can make small difference in other’s life.

Cultural reflection

When I came to US, I confused because of tax. In Korea, price includes tax so people pay just price written on tag. However, people pay money and tax in US. It makes people see original price but people don’t know exactly how much they should pay. It is difference between US and Korea. I think that it is useful when I want to see real price without tax. However, I sometimes experience inconvenience because I can’t know how much I should pay. 

Another aspect of American culture is a tip. In Korea, people need not give tip. It is unnecessary but it is necessary in US. It is a deal for me. I spent time agonize how much I should pay tip. It is interesting. I think that tip is good culture because it is to express gratitude about worker’s help. Finally, there is big difference. In Korea, people don’t wear shoes in House because floor is warm using technology and it is traditional culture. If somebody wear shoes in house, Korean treat this acting as rude or weird because they think shoes makes dirty their house.  I sometimes feel uncomfortable about wearing shoes in house.

Plagiarism

Plagiarism is illegality and serious problem.  I think that plagiarism like a stealing something. However, many people become plagiarist these days. They cannot even feel guilty. It is too bad and it is not moral. Imagine someone steal your own object that can’t buy at any store in the whole world. You feel upset and angry even want to sue. Anybody knows that stealing is immoral. Similarly, plagiarism is stealing someone’s opinion. If you plagiarism someone’s opinion and get good grade, it’s not yours. Your grade can’t be honor. If your plagiarism is find out, you are supposed to get warning or get punishment. In my country, plagiarism is also serious problem. In university, student must not plagiarize and student can’t plagiarize because university has technique so notice who is plagiarist. If students want to use other people’s opinion, idea, picture and creative things, students must add explanation. They should ensure who has copyright. If students plagiarize, they can’t get scholarship and get F grade. Many Koreans hate plagiarism. Two years ago, famous broad caster got blame and she was dismissed her TV show because she plagiarized her graduation thesis. She instantly apologized but people didn't stop yelling. I think that plagiarism is serious problem in the whole world.

My goal for after interlink

My goal for after Interlink is unclear but I hope enter to UNCG. I was sophomore in my 

country university. My major is Journalism and Broadcasting but I think it isn’t my aptitude so I felt boring and wanted to know what can I do, what is my interesting. Then, my cousin recommended interlink. I thought I like learning English and I need studying English so it is good chance for me. I also wanted to study something in other county. Therefore, I came to here but my future is darkness. I have two choices now. First, I will be able to go back my country and study my major. Second, I will be able to go UNCG and study another. Actually, I don’t know what can I do. However, I think to go UNCG is better because I want to get something special. Studying something in UNCG is very hard and difficult but it can give various experience also  I will be able to grow up and I will get job in my country.  I need more time and thinking because it is very important for my life. I want to find solution about my goal after interlink as soon as possible.

I'm hyeyoon.

Hi, I'm hyeyoon and I'm from Korea. My major is Journalism. It is kind of collecting news and writing article for television, newspaper, magazine or radio. I'm going to achieve my goals during rw3 so I want to my writing skill.

• First goal of rw3 is to use many words.When I writing something, I have used limited words. There isn't good. My writing needs more fluency. I should study more vocabulary.

• Second goal of rw3 is to write more quickly. When I writing, I have bad habit so I always think too much before writing. Therefore, I usually forget main idea and be pressed for time. I want to write more faster.

• Third goal of rw3 is enjoying reading English book. I have not enjoyed to read English book ever since I was reading English book. However, I make a decision. I will be able to enjoy reading.

I really hope my reading and writing skills develop in the end of this term.
